Different Strokes Painting Group Exhibition
DIFFERENT STROKES PAINTING GROUP The Different Strokes painting group began roughly 11 years ago as artists in the excellent critique sessions at the Davis Art Center. Over the years we have lost and gained a few members and now number 8 artists: Ann Teal, Anne Lincoln, Dick Stern, Gai Perry, Irene Osuga, Janice Long, Larry Mitchell, and Linda Ayre. Though we paint in different media and styles, we share a common interest in improving our own and others’ paintings through…

Jennifer Nachmanoff Exhibition
"Hearts to Hold" Statement: In the summer of 2020, Davis ceramic artist Jennifer Nachmanoff began forming tiny clay hearts in response to the lives lost to the Covid-19 pandemic. At that point, the count was around 10,000 lives lost in California alone. Something was needed to hold the hearts, so Nachmanoff formed a vessel in the shape of a spikey covid molecule. Thus began a project, the Hearts to Hold project, that is ongoing and currently comprises over 8 vessels,…

Artist Statement Delta Views The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region is an approximately 1100 square mile area. It forms a triangle extending from Sacramento to the north, dropping on its east side through Stockton down to Tracy in the south, and converging between Tracy and Sacramento on the Westside with the San Francisco bay at Pittsburg. The Delta is supplied by the Sacramento River at the north end and the San Joaquin River to the southeast. Since the mid 19th century,…

Delta Views Part II These images represent a continuation of different approaches to looking at our California Delta region. The first group is from a series titled “One Hundred Famous Views of the California Delta”. The format refers to a tradition used in Japanese Woodblock series in the 1800s. These prints would often show famous scenic views along important highway routes or within cities like Edo (ancient Tokyo). The series were released by publishers as individual prints and often ran…

Allison Spreadborough Exhibition
ARTIST BIO My name is Allison Spreadborough. I’m a native of Northern California and currently reside in Sacramento. For as long as I can remember I’ve been drawing and creating art. I primarily paint landscapes using watercolor on cotton paper. In my mid-thirties, I started hiking and traveling in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and National Parks. I brought along nature journals to capture the natural beauty, then I progressed to painting larger watercolors outdoors. I especially love painting in…

Dan Luther Exhibition
“Capturing Light” Photography by Dan Luther One of my favorite pastimes is to simply head out in a general direction, with no fixed destination, and explore Sonoma and Marin counties. From the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, up the coast to Point Reyes National Seashore, Bodega Bay and beyond. Inland along the Russian River, through the Redwoods of Armstrong Grove, out to the Sonoma and Napa wine country, down to Mount Tamalpais, and everywhere in between. …

Marguerite Schaffron and Bunny Cunningham Exhibition
Artist Statement for Marguerite: During my walks in nature, I often see people and creatures. The Mind's Eye are a “reflection” of this blending - that of humanity and nature. Using the mylars reflections, I photograph how nature and individual(s) merge into one. Neither distinct - a single, unified being. In my sculpture, I recycle items from Mother Nature. I strive to transform the objects into thought provoking, sometimes whimsical, assemblages. Please enjoy & let your imagination flow. …

Margaret Eldred Exhibition
Margaret Eldred - Artist's Statement--A Miscellany of Trees I love trees--in the garden, in orchards, along the road, or in the wildlands. Whenever I go out by foot, bicycle, or car to explore the countryside, I take my camera with me, ready to capture a beautiful or unique tree. I call this show a miscellany because I strive to present the diversity of California's trees. I concentrate on natives--oaks of all kinds…
