Yolo County Veterans Coalition has purchased full body and cremation burial plots. These plots are for Veterans who served in the military during a wartime period (per VA), who have been honorably discharged, resided in Yolo County for at least five (5) years, are receiving VA pension or disability compensation, and are not financially able to buy a burial plot at the below locations. A second interment for the veteran’s spouse into the same plot already occupied by a veteran will be permitted.
REQUIREMENTS FOR BURIAL/PLOT ALLOWANCE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERAN AFFAIRS:
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will pay a burial allowance to a veteran who dies as the result of a service-related disability. If the veteran’s death is not related to service or a service-connected disability, they must meet any of the following requirements:
1. The veteran was in receipt of compensation or pension or would have been entitled to receive compensation or pension but for receipt of military retired pay.
2. At the time of death, the veteran had a claim pending for compensation or pension which would have entitled him or her to payment but for his or her death.
3. The veteran served during a wartime period and the body is unclaimed.
4. The veteran died while hospitalized by the VA or while receiving care at a non-VA facility under VA contract.
5. The veteran died while traveling under VA authorization and expense to or from a specified place for examination, treatment, or care.
6. The veteran died while a patient at an approved state nursing home.
A plot or interment allowance may also be payable for a veteran whose death is not service-connected and who:
1. Served during a wartime period and the body is unclaimed or
2. Was in receipt of compensation or pension, or would have been entitled to receive compensation or pension but for receipt of military retired pay; or
3. Was discharged from service because of a disability incurred or aggravated in line of duty (whether or not service connection was ever established by VA for that condition); or
4. Was properly hospitalized by VA or at VA expense; and who is not buried in a National Cemetery.

Upright military markers may be placed on casket plots. A second flush 12″ X 24″ marker for a spouse is permitted on casket plots only. All fees associated with setting of the military marker, or the placement of a second marker must be paid by family and/or friends. Eligibility and application materials can be found here.
Once boxes 1-24 are completed by the family, they should provide the application to the cemetery. We will complete boxes 25-32 and obtain the necessary signatures. Our office will then send the fully executed document back to the family for submission to the VA office.
