Marguerite Schaffron Exhibition
ARTIST STATEMENT: While earning my BA in art from UCD, I was known as the “dumpster diver” – raiding the large, steel boxes of discarded art projects and other goodies. I knew they contained objects that could, and would, live again. Post one MFA show, the artist tossed his Mylar house away and that was when I came up with the reflective, pliable nature of the Mylar and it became key to my…

Allison Spreadborough Exhibition
**Cancelled due to COVID-19** Artist Statement: I'm a watercolor artist and Northern California native most inspired by the natural environment of the California coast, mountains, and deserts. My work draws parallels between natural forces in the world of form through art, geology, botany and formlessness. It’s hard to explain, but I hope that the sense of flow I feel while painting is communicated to the viewer as a sense of spacious consciousness. The composer, John Cage says it well: "When…

Lois Richter Exhibition
Artist Statement: "Experimental" best describes the abstracts and landscapes in this exhibit. Artist Lois Richter uses a fluid painting technique she calls "Swiped Acrylics" -- which she created because of her frustration with the 'Poured Acrylics' technique that used lots of paint, dried very slowly, changed even after it was 'finished', and offered little control for creating anything but abstracts. Lois re-thought, refined, and reapplied the physics of layering fluid acrylics to create her new style -- so she could…

Susan Brady Exhibition
Artist Bio: I came to Davis as a student in 1957. I fell in love with the place, and have called it home for most of my life. One of the greatest gifts of my life was to be a part of the fledgling art department at UCD. The incredible art teachers there opened a whole new world to me. I became an art major and was one of the first graduate students at a time when UCD was at…

Zen Du Exhibition
Artists Statement Zen Du is a multimedia artist. For her, the study of unconscious impulses and the exploration of authentic qualities of materials have been long-time artistic interests. Her work expresses, investigates, and inquires about spirit and matter, unconsciousness and logic, clairvoyance and doctrine, natural and aesthetic, all of which have been observed by her since childhood. All of these qualities have found their way through her visual language. Her work continues to experiment and contribute to gathering archetypes of…
