Sacramento based artist, Alexandra Yakovleva will be exhibiting her work during the month of January.

Artist Statement:

Geometric figurative abstract has been my recent obsession. I am currently experimenting with painting recognizable shapes and dividing them into a segment in one image. The idea is to break an image into balanced sections and work on each part individually without losing the harmonic effect of the whole composition.
I started my journey with golden abstract paintings that have a cubistic base and rather sharp geometrical execution. I used a very limited palette to make my focus on the shapes rather than color. The main colors I used were gold, ultramarine blue and burned umber.
Later I expended into my colorful geometric abstract using a limited palette. I worked on each segment challenging myself by mixing bare essentials to get a new unique color. As a result, I wanted to see how colors act and complement each other.
